Downtown Denver

A friend of mine and I went out last night for a little bit, before we got rained out. :(

I don't have a copy of Photoshop yet (I will after this weekend), so these are untouched. Please give me some feed back on what might make these better as a shot & what I could do in photoshop to make them better. Thanks!

1.
Took A LOT of different shots w/ different settings, but I think this one turned out the best.

2.
Trying to get some lighting before we got rained out @ the Highlands Pedestrian Bridge. (I actually drafted part of this bridge, so I'll probably be taking a lot of pictures of it.)

Who knew downtown Denver was so pretty. :D Well done, Chadwick! thumb.gif
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap but memories are priceless.

Hey now, no need to denigrate our fair city! mwink.gif

Chadwick, nice job there. One of the better Denver skylines I've seen -- certainly better than I've managed in a year of sporadic efforts. The sky color is really cool, I think that helps the shot. In #2 that cloud almost looks like an aurora borealis - nice!

#1 - I'd think about blacking out or otherwise de-emphasizing the lit trees in the lower right. The buildings also blend into the sky a little bit. I bet you could use the blue channel to get a good selection on the sky and up the contrast a little.

#2 - I'd think about cloning out the light pole on the far left side. Also maybe cropping out a lot of the right side.

If you like night shooting, there's a group of us that get together once a month (ish) for some night shooting. You can see a couple events on the calendar here, next one is July 4th weekend: http://illuminateworkshops.com/calendar/index.html

There's a Flickr pool with some of those night shots (and other shots as well) here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/illuminateworkshops/

    .
Thanks for the compliments. This is my first time shooting downtown (with out a point and shoot), so I was playing around with settings a lot. I think I got around 15-20 shots of just downtown.

#1, I'll try that this weekend and see what happens. I haven't played around with Photoshop a lot before, so that's a whole new learning experience too.

#2, I did notice that light on the left side, I was going to just crop it out, but I'll try what you suggested and try to clone it out.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll check on those links, I'd love to go out with you guys sometime. I need to learn as much as I can. Reading can only get me so far.
