A picture of my daughter at a recent horse show. Any hints/tips would be appreciated.

Looks like nice exposure and sharpness. I think it might look better in a portrait crop. Get rid of the distracting background. Or shoot a shallower DOF, to blur the background.

YTiming is the biggest thing in shooting horses and kids (with a camera rolleyes1.gif)

Catching her in the 'up' phase of the rising trot was a good plan - always makes riders look taller and more slender (although not an issue with your daughter, of course!).

That said, her horse is looking quite grumpy with its ears turned back. it MAY just be listening to her, but its eyes suggest otherwise. Perhaps wait to shoot until the horse's ears are pointed forward? Makes for a prettier picture all 'round.

Also, in your cropping, I agree that a portrait orientation would work better - go a little lower above her head and allow her full foot and stirrup to show instead of cutting it off mid-stirrup.

Just a few thoughts - for what they're worth :)
