Have decided this is the lense I would like to start my collection with.

This will compliment my 50 1.8D! I want to move into portrait, macro and sports. Would love to get the 70-200VR, but I don't have that kind of cash.

Thanks,
JD

Of course other suggestions are appreciated.

Look at SIGMA.....it is really great glass and tack sharp....to start you collection and complimentyour 50...I would suggest the Sigma 17-70.....has had great reviews and it gives the needed wide angle for group shots.....the 70-200 (or 80-200) is more of telezoom for weddings..........

    Good Luck............

FYI... I don't suggest the push-pull (v1) 80-200/2.8. No tripod mount and (IMPO) hard to work with. The AFD and AFS copies have the pod mount, are almost identical and great to work with. Good luck with your search...
