North Dakota Pot Hole Area
The DW and I traveled up to ND to see birdies in breeding plumage we don't
see this far south. Just about every bird was shot out the car window.
Some birds never seen before in my area.
American Bittern - first one I've even seen - using DW as tripod out other window
Yellow-headed Blackbird
Common Yellowthroat female
Clark's Grebe - never seen before
need id on this peep
Marsh Wren - first one ever seen
Marbled Godwit - first one ever seen
All four ND galleries can be seen here.

Either a Sanderling or Western Sand Piper. The 1st being around 8 inches while the Piper is smaller around 6 inches. Very close in appearance.

You don't know how much I was hoping to see a Hudsonian but they breed
way way farther north. I'll have to go over the field marks again, maybe get
lucky.:D

many Westerns up there I didn't notice it was a Clark's until processing. A
great surprise. When shootin' birds, it's get the shot then ID later.:D
We're heading down to Arlington Tx for a family reunion in July and from there
down to the coast. Looking for good places to bird. Initial thinking Galveston
and east across La. coast. But coast south from Galveston might be
considered.

I have not seen a Hudsonian, but Marbled Godwits are a dime a dozen in SoCal. And I am certain that the bird in your photo is not a Marbled Godwit.
From the distribution maps a Hudsonian is possible in your area.

It is funny how you get so used to certain breeds that you stop photographing them. I am moving out of California soon, and will probably regret that!
