I went for a hike at Deception Pass today. Here are a few images, all taken with the Olympus E-620. The eagle and telephoto sunset were shot with the 40-150 (80-300 equivalent) kit lens and the wide angle sunset was with the 9-18 (18-36 equivalent). Enjoy!

Looks like a nice place to go for a hike. Really like the last two...the second, for the various layers of colors that pull you through the image, and the last just because its visually appealing. I need to put the PNW on my list of places...I'm not getting any younger. :D

Outstanding photos Mahesh. Such vivid colors and the Eagle capture is just so noble looking!!
I really enjoyed all three of these!

Very nice, Mahesh. The second shot takes me there, and the last shot is like a place of dreams. Cool thumb.gif

    In general, all appealing photos.

I was very interested to see some "real" shots from the E-620, as opposed to advertising.

My reaction is: the eagle is not sharp enough and doesn't pop; is there some noise in the 2nd? (something makes me suspicious); the 3rd's colors and contrast are not dramatic enough.

How much are those things (of course there is a lot of subjectivity in my comments) due to the camera and lenses, is my point?

There are a couple of composition crits I'd make: I'd like to see #1 cropped some on the left; about #3 - I think the foreground rock is too prominent and not interesting enough. Half of it might be enough.

Oh, Mahesh, I think I've been too disagreeable!eek7.gif I hope you take it all in context!:D

The first photo would be really nice if all of the tree branches in front of and above were taken out .

As always, I appreciate your honest and critical feedback, Neil. Don't worry about being too disagreeable. 6 years of residency/fellowship has made my skin pretty thick rolleyes1.gif

The eagle shot is actually pretty sharp, but maybe it's difficult to convey it on the web.

There is absolutely no noise at all in the 2nd shot...perhaps you're seening some jpeg compression artifact?

As far as the 3rd shot comp...I'm a huge fan of a prominent FG, especially if I thin it's intreresting. We'll just have to agree to differ on certain points, I guess...which is a great thing for creativity.

Thanks! You may be correct, but I like how the branches serve as natural frames for the eagle. :D

I've seen a lot of good shots from Deception Pass recently and it makes me really want to get up there!

I love the third image. It looks like it was taken from the exact same spot as the second but I definitely feel the wide angle composition works better. There just seems to be too much of the cliff silhouetted in #2.
Anyway, these were nicely done as a whole.

    Excellent shots Mahesh!
I think I would like to see a bit more to the left of #2, and perhaps not so much silhouetted rock, but it has great colour.
I agree somewhat with NeilL about the foreground in #3 - perhaps a little too much, but that is entirely subjective and I think it is a fantastic shot nonetheless.

Great set, you must have been really close to that eagle! I love the layers in the second shot, and the colors/long exposure effects on the third is also really cool.
