Misc: UV+CPL filters, reverse mount adapters, Velbon tripod. Photoshop CS3

Brian, I think you're right about it being a deer fly - I've looked it up and it certainly fits. Most others I've seen photographed have the eye colours distributed in straight bands rather than wiggly ones like this though.
