Difficulty with Sigma 24-70 AF lens

I have this used sigma 24-70 AF lens that works very well indoors. However, when I try to take a photo in the sunlight I get the dreaded error 99 on my 20d. Put the Canon kit lens on and every thing is fine. I have repeated this several times. I suspect that this lens was for film and early digital auto focus and just isn't a match. Any ideas, recommendations, never have had the error 99 before.
Thanks :scratch

I think this is an older lens and just not compatible. Still odd it will work fine inside but not in bright light which makes me think its just not a good match somehow. ne_nau.gif
    Thanks

Sigma says that some of their older lens are not compatible with the newer cameras. However new production lenses- those for digital are fully compatible.:D The seller on ebay is willing to take the lens back, so all is well-WHEW!:D :D
