Question about order of pictures uploaded

Sorry if this has been discussed but I couldn't find anything on it.

Is there something I am missing when uploading pictures to keep the uploaded pictures in the order that I have them in my folder to upload?

Using MacDaddy (also used other uploaders when I was on Windows - same problem).

I always have to go in and re-sort the pictures even though I have them in a certain order in my file before uploading.

Hi Jan,

You can certainly preserve your upload order in the gallery settings. Just go to the Customize Gallery area and under Look & Feel you'll see Auto-Sort options. You can set the parameters there, in this case "Date uploaded" should work great, but you can organize by filename or date taken, etc.

If you want, you can also make a Quick Setting (explained on that page) so you can make sure that galleries take the same settings when you create them.

Thanks Steph...I saw those options there but didn't use them as I wasn't sure about the 'file name' option.

In Iphoto, I picked out the desired pictures from the original "event", made a new album in Iphoto for only the pictures I wanted to upload, and then arranged them in the order I wanted and batch renamed those letting IPhoto append a number to each image so I would know the correct order.

I wasn't sure if using the "filename" option would do the trick as I wasn't sure which file name Smug uses...the digital file name or the new one I made in IPhoto. 'Date taken' or 'uploaded' wasn't what I wanted, it's usually a particular order than I want to use.

I'll keep working on it...for now, the drag & drop arranging works for me...it just takes more time.

Can you tell me if Smug uses the digital file name or the new file name when uploading and using the auto-sort option? That will answer my question.

****Edit.....Just discovered the answer I needed. Choosing the option "sort by caption" did the trick. So giving the pictures a new name in IPhoto is read as a 'caption' by Smug when sorting and that's what I needed.

Doing the batch rename and sort by caption isn't working for me.

This is really starting to piss me off. I love Smugmug; I've pimped it to everyone I know (and then some).

But this sort order issue with iPhoto is really irritating.

Any suggestions?
