This month's issue of Photography Monthly (published in the UK)
features an opinion piece by photographer Charlie Waite.
Perhaps best known for his book National Trust Book Of Long Walks, his
first, he offers an interesting opinion on "going digital". His version of going
digital is very much like that of Marc Muench in that he's likely to drum scan
a print over shooting digital. Though he does have access to a Hasselblad
digital back and does plan comparison between digital and the same image
on Velvia 50 & 100, I get the impression he would prefer film to direct digital
imaging.
There are some interesting articles offered in this magazine that make it
worth a read. I picked it up for the article on shooting water and for the
galleries featuring the English landscapes and Scotish castles.
I'll leave you with this quote. "Let us not become so smitten with digital though
that we neglect the asethetic considerations we should try to ensure are in
our photography..." --Charlie Waite
I think what he's saying here is that regardless of how you capture the image,
be sure not to forget how to make it in the first place.
