Stats Counting Question

If this has been asked before - apologies - I did carry out a search, but could not find exactly what I am querying.

In the Stats totals against a picture viewed , if I have created a "share" to a picture ( as I would to put in a forum on here or to put a picture on flickr) and someone "clicks" on the image does that count as a "view" in the stats?

Therefore the stats do not purely count pictures viewed only by opening my Smugmug site?
