yesterday afternoon, i had the opportunity to shoot the california coast with fellow dgrinner and fine photographer, steve cavigliano... it was a really nice day.

first stop (after lunch at phil's in moss landing, calamari, shrimp, clams, etc etc) was an infrared-grab of a farm patch i've been shooting:

(click on pics for exifs)

infrared-modded canon rebel, canon 10-22 ef-s aboard:

the wildflowers were gorgeous. shot with canon 1Ds Mark II and canon 35L

infrared, and 9% luminosity toning layer applied in post.

i tried to have some "fisheye fun" as well as add to my grafitti collection:

a fine afternoon of shooting, capped off by clam chowder in sour-dough bread bowls :food

enjoy (coastal) photography,

Gosh Andy, now ye got me hungry! Just teasing, not really the point of interest, lolol:D They are gorgeous photos. The inland wild flowers never did well this year, and with all the rain we were so excited to get up on the grapevine, and we were two weeks too early, barely a bloom but tons of buds. Then they had snow and a freez and they all died! Dang it.

Your coast shots are really nice. Nice going on the IR too. I took a few in Yosemite and posted them in Other stuff.

lol - yeah sure: 1. put canon 35L on camera. 2. shoot pic. 3. open raw file in adobe camera raw. 4. click "convert" 5. in photohop, open a curves adjustment layer... 6. click on the black eyedropper 7... click on the blackest part of the pic

    that's it :D

    thanks!

    Andy,

The series is terrific - but I must have the chowder! The last of the additional shots you added is a particular beauty.

BTW - is Pepsi making a donation to the forum for the placement? Laughing.gif

All great shots Andy, I really like the last photo, every aspect of the photo is great, I just wanted to add that I like the way the clouds follow the slope of the background.

Here's another favorite place I like to photograph. Davenport, it's a slightly hidden beach.

    Excellent series!
I really liked 2&3 from the original post - the yellow and blues go great together in 2 and I love the composition and colors in 3.

The last image in post #7 is outrageous - colors, composition, depth of field - all combine to make an outstanding landscape image.

Andy, I am actually a painter, turned amatuer photographer. It is photographs like this one, that make me crazy about photography. It is amazing how a photograph can make life so beautiful!!! I have just started taking abstract photos with my digital camera, but I am wanting to get into it more seriously. I have had lots of photography classes while studying painting. I used a Nikon back then, but I am wanting to buy a new camera, and I am up for suggestions. Thanks, Zilla
