Osprey Attack !

While watching my favorite osprey nest yesterday I witnessed an exciting event. Mama osprey had vacated the nest for a few minutes and was watching the 3 chicks from a perch high in a tree. About that time a Great Blue Heron flew by, casually going about his business. Well, mama thought he was a little too close to the nest so she came flying down behind the unsuspecting heron, nailing him in the back and sending him tumbling down into the lake. As I watched the feathers fly as the big bird slammed into the water, I just knew he was a goner. But he managed to struggle back up and be chased away by the aggressive osprey.
