Interesting abandoned locations?

I know we did a thread on this a year or so ago but for the life of me I can't find it. So I thought I would start up a new one, thinking there most surely are new dgrinners with locations....
Anyway, I am still on my fascination with old, abandoned things in the world. Whether it be houses, barns, factories, hospitals, trucks, etc. I know there are plenty of others like me out there. Where have you discovered interesting places/things? I am near NYC so anything in the vicinity would be awesome to hear about.

I explored the Cornish Estate Ruins in Cold Spring, NY last summer and plan to go back soon to explore the rest. You can find info here:http://www.hudsonvalleyruins.org/yasinsac/cornish/cornish1.html

I also, timidly, explored some of a partially abandoned psychiatric hospital complex on Long Island: http://www.kvtphotography.com/gallery/8724187_dfADK#576748113_e8D4B

There is a shipwreck out on Long Island in Riverhead I plan to check out also: http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM56VF_Shipwrecks_at_Reeves_Park_Riverhead_NY

    Hi Kristina,

There are threads like this that pop up but the reason why they generally aren't condoned is because a lot of people are not only protective of such information, but it can be extremely dangerous to go into these places. Also, most people who are familiar with good locations would like to see them preserved, and publicizing locations and entry points is detrimental to their well-being: Vandalism, fire, graffiti, as well as people getting injured and authorities taking action to raze or guard the area, etc.

I happen to be one in that camp, and in my experience most explorers tend to communicate in private, going on an honor and an exchange system.
