And how do I know if they still work if I fond one on evilbay?

Quality lenses that fill the 8" x 10" format are the real killer. Quality lenses that allow full tilts and swings are just amazingly expensive, especially when you get away from the "standard" focal lengths. Working shutters and shutter maintenance are another expense most new large format users forget about.

PETER GOWLAND CAMERA'S......toward the bottom of the page are the 8x10's and accessories (cams start at 1550.)
