GPS with my New Pre

OK, so let me outline what my initial vision was. I own an SX10is, which is GPS-less. I just got a Palm Pre which is GPS enabled (Geotagging). My initial thought was during a planned photo shoot I'd take a shot with the Pre for GPS reference to that way easily tag the rest of my shots. I should now mention the rest of my equipment: a MacBook Pro with iPhoto 08. When I view the Palm Pre picture in iPhoto I can clearly see the GPS coordinates in the exif data. With Locations and the privacy settings all set to what is needed for Smugmug, the option to view the map doesn't come up, and the photo doesn't show the GPS info. Does iPhoto 08 strip the exif data of GPS info because it can't handle it? Thanks!
