Not spotted this one before- another small dark hoverfly but with 2 yellow spots at the top of the abdomen- about 7.1mm body length. ID'd by WAB site as Pipiza bimaculata.

Urte - taken with a 40D camera, MPE-65 lens, 430 ex flash bracket mounted with diffuser. All the shots are focus stacked for greater DOF.

Did you use rails or shift focus? Either way, I'm amazed you can work so fast with a live speciman. Daringly good!
handheld?
The first shot was taken using a pole to help stabilise the camera (hold the pole in the left hand with a bit of camera). This hoverfly was very docile and I managed to cut the leaf it was sitting on and placed it on a sun chair for the other two shots. This meant I could lean on the sun chair or rest the lens on the sun chair for the other 2 shots. I focus between shots by moving the camera.
