How to Start Selling???

Hi, I've tried a search but can't find a prior discussion of this topic. I'm primarily a sports photographer with my own niche; however, I love photography in general, and I think I've taken lots of saleable non-sports images. I'm trying to find a way to validate that belief and then, if valid, figure out how to convert that into income. I've come to understand, mainly thru perusal of Photoshop User magazine, that there are agents/reps who could fill both the evaluative and placement rolls. Is that true? If so, any recommendations? Any caveats? Is there a better way?

Put differently: If one thought they had saleable "art" photography but had no clue where to start testing that "saleablity", where would one start?

Reps and agents usually work with established artists who have a certain amount of work under their belt. They work on building the client base versus starting one.
The easiest way to get started is to find places to hang your work. You can also enter juried competitions to get your work hung in museums.
