...just recently tried my SB800 in the off camera mode and the results were pretty cool...now I'm fired-up to add another and wondered if the SB600 would make a good partner with the 800 acting as master. Thoughts?

    Welcome to Digital Grin!

I have a SB800 and SB600, and use them with either my D300 or D70 with the camera built-in flash set to "commander-mode". You didn't mention which camera, but with the Nikon CLS, the lighting possibilities are endless.

I also have the sb800/sb600 combo. Love it! I suggest you get gels and a light stand. Also check out ebay for softboxes.
Another suggestion is looking into strobist.com

...I also have a D300 and a D70s...you guys have verified that I should plunge on! Thanks! I *did* run into the "line of sight" problem and want to fix that, too...so next query is Pocket Wizard or Skyport?
