Surprise Creek

It's finally summer in the Pacific Northwest but I decided on one last forest/stream hike before I turn my attention to the subalpine environment. My trip to Deception Creek last week was so nice that I decided to head one drainage over to Surprise Creek. Although its eventual destination is a series of high lakes, the trail hugs the valley floor and Surprise Creek for a couple miles. I figured I might find a number of interesting places to check out. The warm temperatures and sunshine made for harsh photo conditions but its definately worthy of a return trip.....

Beautiful cascades and luscious greens, Steve. You have too many great shots here for me to pick a favorite. thumb.gifclap.gif

Beautiful set! But my favorite is #3. I like the simplicity and the lighting that favors the one leaf among all others.

Thanks, everyone. I'm real happy with how these turned out (all things considered). I also really like #3 because I was able to capture the spotlight but still retain the detail in the leaf. I'm also getting better at hand-holding my ND Grad! :D

Beautiful location! The first image is my favorite. You did a great job of handling the exposure with such tricky lighting. I think I might prefer a composition a little closer to the falls to eliminate that foreground.

Getting any closer would have required a pair of hip waders. :D

Actually, here's a different shot which eliminated the FG. I wasn't as pleased with the huckleberry leaves in the foreground so that's why I didn't originally post it..

Oh yeah. This second version is a lot better in my opinion! The only thing I see that needs to be fixed is the lens vignetting in the corners. It can also be seen on numbers 5 and 6.

    Anyway, good work here!
