First I'd like to say hi to everyone, I'm new to the forum. This place is awesome! I'm a student at Academy of Art in San Francisco and I'm learning everyday from you guys. Thanks!

I made the trip to Monterey for Moto GP practice this weekend. Here are a few I think came out good. All shot with a 50D and 300 f/4. C&C welcome.

Chris

That shot is sick. I would probably darken the pavement and BG with a duplicate BG layer in PS? But thats just me!

I'd crop in on #2 a bit - take a little off the left and bottom... Otherwise, spectacular series!

Nice shots, I am super jealous. Just curious, what lens/camera were you shooting with. Just wondering what I will need to bring if I can make it next year.

I used a D700 with the grip and a Sigma 50-500 (updated post with this info). There were guys there with 600s though on cropped sensors but I think the shots came out fine even when cropped.

It was a great day for photos. I found the 300 worked well but I would like to have a 400 or 500 next time. The corkscrew is nice since the riders are coming directly at you and you can use the shorter lens. Are you planning to go for Le Mans in October? Should be interesting shooting at night.

I don't know what Le Mans is to be honest. I just shoot the races close to me for run, nothing too serious.

I have zero interest in cars actually. Just not as exciting as motorcycle racing, but I rode bikes for a dozen years, never been much of a car guy. Lots more "drama" in motorcycle racing IMO.
