auto email notifications from smug & dgrin not working

I originally added my comments to a thread regarding this problem that another dgrin user was having under Dgrin Forum Support on 6/30/9 under the title "instant notification stopped."

For some reason it appears that I do not receive email notifications when I post a new thread in dgrin or when someone leaves a comment on a photo on my smug site. It appears though that I DO receive emails for instance from individuals such as one that I received from Lindy on 6/17/9 when I emailed smug help.

All my settings in smug and dgrin as well as my AT&T email account are all configured correctly and do not block smugmug or dgrin at all and should receive email notifications. I have received them in the past and just recently stopped getting them.

In the dgrin thread Andy recommended I contact my ISP AT&T and see if they are blocking or filtering emails from smug or dgrin. After lengthy conversation with their tech support up to their Level 2 Email Support in San Ramon, CA, the rep. named Victor advised me that they usually cannot specifically block or filter an individual email address from a company, but their "AT&T Security Team" will occassionally block emails sent from problem IP Addresses like possibly ones sent from smug and dgrin.

Problems from what I can tell started on 5/21/9 when someone left a comment on a photo in one of my smug galleries; I never received the notification. A few days before though I did receive an email from smug about new smug news which was dated 5/15/9. On 6/17/9 I received a personal email from Lindy regarding an issue sent to smugmug help. Last week on 6/30/9 I never received any notifications for both the thread in question above under Dgrin Support and a different thread I started about adding some customization to my site. If I never went back to dgrin I would not have known that someone replied.

So what AT&T is asking is if YOU / Smugmug / Dgrin can do some diagnosing on your end to see if the automatic emails are getting blocked somewhere once you send them. AT&T states it is difficult to trace automatic emails as AT&T Security will block emails if they are sent from known or potentially known spam IP addresses. These emails would get bounced back without me knowing and then sent back to smug or dgrin without smug or dgrin knowing and just get lost in the web.

AT&T asked for smug to manually send out an automatic email notification to see if there is a bounce back from AT&T and to determine if it was not delivered. Once this is determined they ask that smug go to the following web address and complete an inquiry form for them to have the AT&T Security department to try and lift the blocking if it is in fact blocked. The address to go to is at the following:

http://worldnet.att.net/general-info/block_inquiry.html

Once you go to this site select option #2 and fill out the form to send to the AT&T Security Department. This form has to be filled out by smug and not me as you are the company sending the notifications.

Please let me know if this is something you can do or not and what results if any come about.

I am frustrated at this whole situation with AT&T and not sure why all of a sudden I have problems. I have sent this thread to smugmug help email as well looking for resolution but posted it here to see if other dgrin users are having similar problems.

Thanks for your attention with this problem.

    Andy,

Just following up to see if you or anyone else had a chance to look into my problem and maybe work on the email test that AT&T suggested. Thanks for your time, any help is appreciated!

AT&T could be blocking emails from certain domains.(read you post... yep they are blocking) My work around is to send all forum emails to my gmail account and the gmail account is set to forward to my regular email account.

Thanks Johnny. I double checked with their advanced email tech support and they deny blocking certain domains. They thoroughly looked over my account they say and all looked fine. headscratch.gifdunno

    Hi Andy,

Any luck with this particular problem? Are you able to proceed with the request by AT&T to try and troubleshoot this or am I left with no resolution as it appears to be an isolated problem with my email provider?

    Thanks again.

So far we can't find anything that we can do to make our emails get to you. What (again, I know) does your ISP say?

Basically they (AT&T) say that they have no way of blocking specific email addresses or domains unless I specifically block it myself within my mail settings. I do NOT do that as I used to receive all dgrin notifications and smug notifications. All those settings are the same as well.

Their second level email tech support in San Ramon/Dublin, CA thoroughly went through my mail settings and account and did not see anything not properly configured or set.

It appears that something changed on your guys' end around May or so and for whatever reason I no longer receive any email notifications. If it helps, I DO get notifications from Smug Users though.

AT&T asked that you / Smug / Dgrin somehow send a test through the linked webpage that I posted in the previous thread to try and diagnose the problem since it appears that all the emails that are being sent to me are just getting sent into space and lost forever ... ne_nau.gif

So in conclusion are you / Smugmug saying there is nothing that can be done on your end and I'm to deal with this myself and basically not have any type of notifications for my site?

I'm saying we have no idea how one email address can be blocked by us :(

I wish I could fix this! Can you change to a gmail in the meantime?

I have the same problem for a week or two now. When someone comments on a picture I do not get an email. I tried commenting on one of my own pictures while logged out and that email I got.

It's a puzzle. The email notification came through for your comment but it seems to be hit or miss. Everything looks OK as far as settings go. It's not that big a deal to me though.

Put me into the mix too. All Smugmug email notifications have stopped. Last notifiction; 4-22 @ 8:24PM.

I would believe this must somehow be linked to the issue that was occurring prior to this. I started to get email notifications for ramdonly selected comments on pictures of other Smuggers. Usually a series of emails for the same Smugger, different pictures. A different day, a different Smugger... I sent a request for help on this one already. Seemed to slow down somewhat, but never went away. The response then was the issue was a known one and being worked...and if I did not want to get them "Turn off your email notification". I gotta say, I guess this issue is fixed...I don't get them anymore...stopped them all...

Another issue that I am sure must be linked to all this, happened during the same time frame. I would get emails for comments I made myself on someone elses pictures if I made the comments from a different computer. And, yes, I was logged properly and my avatar showed and all... Hey, I don't get these either - this problem has also been fixed.

Does not sound like much is going on to "really" fix this and all the blame is being put on the service provider. I have changed nothing at my end that would have caused this, checked my Smug settings and any blocked addresses; all are fine.

I just may ping others Smuggers to see how wide spread this is. I cannot believe it is just the three of us! It is good to know I am in such fine company though.

I did and said so above... I'd be glad to open another. It will then include all of my email issues including the one being addressed here. I did not want to cause 2X the work :D .

After discovering this forum, I try to come here to see if my issue is being addressed here before I send the SOS to help... Your initial response to J.T. was not to do both, now it looks like I am being told to do both. Which way do I go...
