just got back from my final trip of the year to the Farne Islands and though i would post a few more Puffin Shots. We were very lucky this visit, not only with the weather which was superb but i was able to capture my first Puffin Chick which was fantastic.

I was mainly using my D300, 70-200 F2.8VR and 1.4x TC this trip. I took the D3 and the 500VR and used them for a few shots but the 70-200 was enough. I also made the decision to shoot Jpeg rather than my usual RAW and was pleasantly surprised. My camera settings were Vivid with sharpening set to 3

hope you enjoy the photos

best wishes

Colin.

Beautiful color and nice exposure on all of them Colin. thumb.gif Gotta love that one with the mouthful. rolleyes1.gif

A puffin is certainly an odd looking bird but it's got the color to make up for it.

Wonderful set of images thumb.gif I can't believe you got these with a 200mm lens. Using a 400mm w/1.4x I was unable to get close enough to puffins feeding in open water to get a keeper. But looking at yours inspire me to persevere... headscratch.gif

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Can't pick a favorite. You did a great job with all of them. Puffins are very photogenic birds.
