Just a little time with my Boys out shooting some massive sculpture.
These shots are as close to Golden Hour without having the westside mountain shadows hit these red rock faces.

I dont think I will ever really figure out how to compose these giants,
but I try.....

I like the first one and #6; the b&w is excellent and the clouds behind the massive rock shows a bit of scale as do the trees in the cleft. The colors in the others is wonderful. Really neat seeing only a show going into the cave! I'm sure in the boys' imagination they have already found gold! :D

Beautiful shots, Aaron! I've been to this place several times, and I have difficulty choosing "good" compositions also. You've done a fine, fine job. I love the glowing quality of those red rocks when the light hits them just right. My favorite is #8, with that beautiful silhouette. clap.gif

    Hi Aaron,

Nice series with great light. I partial to #6 also with all the detail showing up with that beautiful light.

    Nice shots, Aaron! thumb.gif

You got some great light on the red rocks. Reminds me of my weekend in Sedona. It took me a minute to figure out what that object was in the cave in that last one. rolleyes1.gif

I like #1 the most as well. This looks like it would be a difficult place to compose.

remember that this place never gets a true sunset light due to the mountain on the west side, and all these rock faces face west so morning light is a backlight. I havent really made it work well....

My favorite composition from Kolob is a pano of the entire view,
I dont really want that one on the internet otherwise i would show you. but keep it in mind to do a pano....

Good to know! Thanks for the tip Aaron...we plan on traveling all over Utah, seeing Bryce again, and Zion, if there's time we'll visit Kolob...then go to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab to volunteer for the day...then off to Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend. I just love it out there in Utah...and AZ too. Just an amazing part of the country!
