Mockingbirds don't seem to get much attention from photographers, so here are a couple of shots.

lovely shots Ira, mike and myself spent a good while in Florida photographing mockingbirds, usually when we were chasing Cardinals around only to find that the song was coming from the mockingbird.

I might point out that the mockingbird is active 24 hours a day, and you can hear them singing in the middle of the night.

You know, you're right. Not alot of photographers shoot the Mockingbird.
They're not the best looking bird, but they can really sing. I have one (Pictured below) that lives in my backyard and he imitates the car alarms
along with all the other bird calls, he's really something.
By the way very nice shots, love the color and lighting.clap.gif

Thanks, Dave. The mockingbirds in my back yard are hard to photograph. I have several trees back there 40-50' high, and the mockingbirds tent to land at the highest point possiable so that they can overlook their territory. Most of my mockingbird shots therefore are taken in the field where the brush is low to the ground.

Although we're supposed to have mockingbirds here in northern Indiana I've never seen one. However, I try to photograph them every time we go to Texas to visit my daughter's family. I had some success this year with static shots but have not been able to get one in flight and in FOCUS. :D Any of you been able to do that? The white underwings and tail tip are beautiful in flight making an otherwise dull bird a beautiful sight.

    Nice shots Ira.

Very nice pictures, all! The pics in the original post look almost as if they could be of the Bahama Mockingbird, being slightly browner than the Northern Mockingbird (could be a juvenile, I suppose). I just love their song; they're such fantastic mimics! I've heard them here in the North East at at 3 am in the pouring rain, singing to beat the band! Talk about lifting the spirits!

    Thanks for sharing -

BTW: One of my favourite books is Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird" (check it out if you're not familiar with it)

PS: Just checked the book - no white tip on tail, so must be a juvenile Northern…
