    Filming movies which will have CG effects added later often use similar devices to indicate the quality "and" direction of light, with the intent that the CG effects will be generated with similar lighting. This produces a more realistic match between the filmed scene and the CG elements.

    Used in still photography these targets can show differences in shadow and highlight tones, especially useful in lighting with mixed color temperatures.

    Scott Bourne reviewed it and seems to like it when he first saw it at PMA. If I remember correctly, he called it the best of PMA for this year.
