Should community founders be able to delete the community?

I ask this question after deleting my own community that I had recently started. In this case there was little interest in joining and absolutely no activity except from me, so I felt justified in taking this course of action.

It seems, though, that I could have just removed myself from the community, as the "leave community" option is available to community founders, too.

What about in the case of a thriving community with hundreds of members, though? Is it right that the whole community can disappear with one click if the founder wills it to be so? If the said founder decides to leave the community, I'm presuming that administration of the group falls to the next longest serving member? Does anyone know if this is so?

From the above, I feel that it should only be possible to delete a community under special cirumstances in consultation with Smugmug support.
