Reception shots don't seem to get a lot of space on here, so I thought I would post a few -- perhaps stimulate a good conversation about what you try to do at the reception.
the toast:
I liked this shot of the best man toasting with the BG in the background.
the guys
someone asked me to take this shoot of the ushers and groomsman. I have some more formal pics of them in another setting.
family shot
I tend to wander around not too far from the bride and groom. they asked me to get this one of the family.
greeting friends
I have a lot of shots like this of the BG greeting friends. some are semi-posed.
table
I usually try to get on of every table. at first, I didn't pose these but the seem to be better if I let people get teh food out of their mouths.
the food
I thought this worked better with no flash and the exposure turned way down. the highlights in the meat a still blown.
the kid
this kid wanted lots of pictures. glad I wasn't spending money on film
the mariachi
No Mexican reception is complete without a Mariachi band. Here, they are singing to the BG. I had one each way -- one with the BG in focus and the other with the Mariachi in focus
the fun
I am holding the camera over my head (and I think I am standing on a chair) to get this shot. I actually missed it really bad as far as the aim, but with a little cropping, I thought it was OK. these guys know how to party.
group dance
I have 4 flashes on stands all firing simultaneously to get this shot.
groom and mom
you can see one of the off camera flashes firing in this shoot. I try to avoid this as a rule and shoot the other way, but occasionally, I think it adds some variety.
first dance
first dance, close in
lots and lots of dance shots.
I will actually deliver 1600 or so photos to the BG, 1000 or so at the reception; I figure they can do the tossing of the ones they don't want.
garter
the cake
too polite or my taste. Always love it when teh really smash each other
the toast
this is tbe bride looking at her maid of honor giving a toast
bride and grooms turn to talk
