I just got a 12v charger for my 5D2 batteries. It's a necessary piece of kit for me as I'm often on extended camping trips on the motorcycle and need to re-charge my batts. I was speechless when I saw the price of the Canon charger, over here it's £160!! So you can imagine my relief when I spotted a copy for £20. It's made by Inov8, a name I'm familiar with as I have a 12v charger for my Eee-PC from them. I just tested it in the car today and it's working fine. :thumb

I got mine from Bristol Cameras here in the UK.

I hope it's available on your side of the pond.

My solution is to carry a small power inverter in my car. Then I can charge anything like my laptop, cell phone, plus charge my various camera batteries. No need to buy the car versions of any of those chargers.

Here's an example of what I mean. This is $28 at Amazon, and puts out 300 watts.

They don't put out the cleanest power in the world which means you don't want to run sensitive equipment on them. But they're perfect for running battery chargers which generally don't require clean power.
