Multi day pricing question

I am considering doing a wedding for a cousin next year (I know...gasp!) and they want 3 full days of coverage. Around town shots, rehearsal, wedding, brunch, family day at the beach, etc.

My question is, what would YOU charge for 3 days of coverage for a client? I have to travel in the day before to make my total commitment to 4 days of being away from work/home.

Family discount notwithstanding, what might you charge? This is my first request for a multi-day shoot like this and I have no good starting point. I am assuming a standard package price plus about 75% of that cost per day? Of course, they are paying travel and lodging separately.

Any info would be appreciated! Cheers!

D-DAY --- (Wedding day) full price....
    2nd day----75-80%
    3rd day......45-55%

    OR
2nd and 3rd days at 65% for both
    must include all meals.....

travel day....travel is paid ...that includes food......use vacation pay from reg job to be nice.........

headscratch.gif I have a feeling no matter what you'll ask for, you won't get paid enough (family members seem to think you'll just do it for fun).

Rehearsal dinner & brunch?? I don't know ... I did a couple rehearsal dinners, and there wasn't *that* much to photograph. There is usually some sort of "cocktail hour" / toasts and then people start eating and def. don't want to have any photos taken ... I guess it's nice because after the rehearsal dinner people will know you and it will be easier for you to get candids the day of ... but 3 days of coverage is a lot, I think at some point the couple has enough photos ne_nau.gif

I'm not much of a help, am I? rolleyes1.gif Haha ... sorry, ... but sounds like they don't think they'll have to pay much for all your time ne_nau.gif

Disclaimer: not a wedding photographer, thus take this with VERY VERY large grain of salt since I likely don't know what I'm talking about :)

HOWEVER.... would it work to arrive late on day 1 (iow late aft/evening so enough light for any outdoor + avail for the rehearsal), do the necessary for the rehearsal/town shots in that block, shoot the wedding itself the following day, and then stayover and leave by lunchtime after whatever morning commitments would be required the following day? That essentially would only eat up three days of your time (if the travel could be coordinated of course), and you could charge them 2-2.5x what you would for a wedding (+housing/travel, of course, and one would hope they would feed you, or you could include a per diem for food on the two travel days).

My reasoning here is that 3 days of coverage just sounds excessive. It's tough on you (since as family it seems unlikely they're expecting to pay market rate!), and I have to question what you could realistically get above and beyond the evening/full day/morning scenario.

Again, not a wedding photog, so I may be talking total rubbish, but just my take as an "outsider" :) Good luck!

Sounds like 24ish hours. If you have an hourly rate, go that route and include the images.

For events like these, it's almost easier to bill them like a commercial job. If they decide to use you for finishing and albums, it's a bonus.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I appreciate everyone's input for sure!

I think I will do a bit of a blended rate, full price for wedding day and and about 70% or so for the next two. I was hesitant to do a family wedding, but it will be great to catch up and make a little money at the same time. Should be a nice wedding, it will be in Charleston, SC so a neat area for this mountain dweller.

Interesting how thus far, my weddings are Chicago, Malibu, Estes Park CO (x2) and now South Carolina! Don't even have one on the books so far for my hometown! :D

I am totally jealous. I love Charleston!!

I think your pricing sounds reasonable. Have fun with it, and since you are already there, it would be a great time to experiment once you've captured the "required" shots.
