I would love to get some input and testimonials on landing "Official" photographer gigs with associations, events, and leagues.

What is your initial approach, paperwork, barter, followup, etc?

You have to know (or get to know) the group or organization. Who runs it, who makes the decisions, who handles the press, who handles the contracts.

You need to learn their needs, their budgets, their expectations and most importantly their constraints.

You need to be able to demonstrate your ability to meet and exceed those criteria.

I'd also like to suggest you be sure you have the manpower/availability to meet their needs. Depending on the size of the organization you may need more than yourself to fulfill the contract. One of the worst things you can do is bite off more than you can chew and get a reputation for being unable to meet expectations. It will be tough to recover from that.
