Thought I would share some images from over the pond. The old Oyster beds in Langstone Harbour, near Portsmouth, Hampshire have been converted to make nesting sites on two gravel islands for Tern. Originally it was for Little Tern but they have moved off to other offshore islands in Langstone Harbour.
The nesting site at the Oyster Beds has now been taken up by Common Tern and Black-headed Gulls. The nests for the both are on the pebbles in a scrape. The Black-headed gulls however bring seaweed to line their nests.
The water surrounding the islands is very deep and stays pretty well stocked up with fish. A weir at the seaward side keeps the water level high between tides but allows fresh seawater to enter the lagoon at high tide.
Here is an image of a Common Tern fishing
Returning to the nest site and calling for its young
It's not just food that's brought back though:yikes
Bombing Run - Heads down.:D
