Palouse Falls

I have been wanting to head out to Palouse Falls for a while now. We were going to go several weeks ago, but lost the water pump in our car. Both coscorrosa and dseidman have post some incredible photo from this location that pretty much trump my pics, but I tried. It was not the right time of day for good lighting and it was really hot out there. I tried some HDR to deal with the light. On our way out the temp taken by our car was 103 degrees. I also suspect the water is a bit slower, but still, it is pretty incredible to find a waterfall this large out in the middle of now where. I will post a few pics here and give you a link if you would like to see more.

    Thanks for the comments guys I appreciate it!

    Mahesh, I really like the rainbows also. When we first got there, I looked at the falls and there was a rainbow. Then we ate and when I went back it was gone. I then took a bit of a hike around to the side and found it again:).

    Love these shots, Ron. I agree about how neat it is to see a waterfall in what looks to be such an isolated and desolate place otherwise. It's one of my favorite things to try and convey that feeling in pictures.

    Thanks Steve. I am glad that you liked the pics!

    I checked out some of your pics also. You have some very nice waterfall pics also, like this one, http://jsrucci.smugmug.com/gallery/8759093_QDj65#570220769_pPSNy

    Love the rainbow in #2 and the comp of #3. Palouse Falls is crazy, totally unexpected in that desert landscape. Glad you didn't get attacked by rattlesnakes in the hot weather! Last time I was there I saw two of them, and almost stepped on a baby that was sitting right on the ledge that I was shooting from.

    It's good to see that you finally got out there! Too bad you missed out on the chance to experience this place when the weather was still down in the 70s.
    I'm also liking #2 and #3. I'm glad to see that you also managed to capture that cool rock formation in the sixth shot. I'm hoping to get back over there sometime this year and explore the area a little more.

    Thanks Ron. After seeing your pics and the one of the rattlesnake, I was definitely on the look out for them. This sign did not help either;

    Notice the little note above the picture and we have no cell phone. My eyes were always scanning the path ahead as I walked. I really did not want to meet up with one, especially on the edge!!

    Thanks Danny. That rock formation was pretty neat. I want to go out again, but on a much cooler day, although, I will not get the water flow over the falls that you guys did earlier this year. That would have neat to see.

    Thanks Eia. It really is amazing to see this. It is so hot and dry out there, you just do not expect it. Here is one more rainbow for you.

    Nice catch Ron and glad you got to go out there! That rattlesnake sign is not heartening. Nearest phone 15 miles away?
