Moo Cards

I recently tried MOO Cards for the first time. I love these cards because you can print a different image on each card. It allows you to really show off your portfolio. Anyway, I just got an e-mail from Moo with a free shipping code. If you use the code "M34TSP" when checking out, you'll get free standard shipping on your order.

** FULL DISCLOSURE ** If you use the code, it also enters me into a contest for free business cards.

Thanks for the code for free shipping. I was intriqued by the site since I heard about it over in the marketing or senior thread. :) I forget which.

I wonder how long the free shipping code is good for.

It's good until August 31. (sorry, I should have said that in my last post).

I really like the mini-moo cards. You can get a plastic holder for the cards that fit on a key chain, so you'll always have the cards with you. I went to a farmer's market this past weekend and handed out a few cards and I got positive comments on the cards.

When SmugMug does turn on the coupon functionality (c'mon guys!!!) I am planning on getting cards printed with a coupon code for x% off... something like "Do you like the image on this card? Go to photos.nealjacob.com and use coupon code ..... and receive x% off your order...."

I just ordered regular business cards trial pack (10 cards, up to 10 images, either paper choice and one choice for back, can be your own or use their template). the only catch is if you don't pay a 5.95 upgrade fee you get a logo along the edge of your image saying moo business cards or something (it's a black line). I decided I didn't want to pay the fee since i just wanted to see what the images look like and whatnot. can't wait

Hmm, since were talking handing out business cards, how do you all do it?

I read somewhere its good practice to force yourself to give out 5 cards a day. After a while it becomes 2nd nature.

As it is, I generally see the same people every day, so it would be a bit of a waste to hand out cards to them repeatedly. :)

Does anyone make a point of going somewhere with the intention to hand out cards?

free with the slower shipping and no upgrade (meaning their logo stays on there)

well i'm working on the same thing, but i forced myself to hand a couple out at the store and I purposely went to the july 4th event to hand out business cards and get contact info. It's all about taking the plunge. Make sure you're always carrying them (i've kicked myself 2x because i forgot to reload my stash) and just be polite and say I saw you... and I thought you might be interested, let me know if you need anything. I also became 'familiar with them' if it's a military wife i tell them about a great site for them, i try and connect on some personal level, gives them a way to remember you better.

Im not the most outspoken person, and am terrible coming up with small talk. When im on the job, say a wedding, I become more outspoken and take charge, but the rest of the time, pretty shy.

So July 4th, you just walked aruond, started small talk and gave them a card, and moved to the next person? Have you gotten any business from this yet?

Last week I was at a Farmer's Market and I had my camera. It's easy to strike up a conversation with people when you have your camera with you.

I handed out three cards instead of five. :) I have the "Mini-Moo Cards" and you can buy a plastic case that clips to your key chain (but I keep it in my pocket), so your cards are always with you.

The full size business cards allow you to put a logo on one side (along with your contact info) and an image on the reverse. The "minis" only allow for text on one side and an image on the reverse.

I always have the Moo Mini Cards with me. Depending on where I am and who I talking to, I select one accordingly. For example, I shoot bulls (with my camera!) and have one bunch of cards with a good bull shot. I also do pets and children - so I have cards with examples of those.

I went to the veterinarian's office yesterday (my poor pooch has allergies - badly) and while there put some of my pet cards on their bulletin board AND handed some out to people I spoke to in the waiting area.

There are always opportunities to hand out cards and they are the cheapest and most effective marketing tool you can have. People will keep them for eons. You'll be surprised to find that someone calls you in six months or even six years because of your business card.:ivar

i am an extrovert, BUT I don't like selling things necessarily, so what I did was walk around with my camera, stop at a family say "excuse me may I take some pics of your family and get a photo release signed. I'm a freelance photographer and I hope to use these for ..." then i'd give them my pocket release, pen, and a business card, many used the card as a writing surface and then kept it. I haven't gotten any business yet no, but I have built a couple relationships which I hope leads to more relationships adn future sales.
