Blue Grosbeak

I never had noticed the bi-colored bill of these guys.

Painted Bunting

All of these are from the Javelina Ranch, a different blind that is right on a resaca, except for the first painted bunting which is from the Weaver Ranch. There is an old working windmill at the Javelina Ranch blind where I shot these grosbeaks and buntings that actually pumps water into the resaca to keep water there; otherwise, it would just dry up I think.

Thanks Dan. I just wish they weren't so shy, but when you are that colorful I suppose you have to be or every Cooper's or Sharp-shinned hawk would be after you not to mention bobcats, coyotes and snakes.

Love that first shot of the blue grosbeak but the last shot of the painted bunting on the deadwood is my favorite. Glad you were finally able to get one away from the curb. :D Too bad you had to drive 9 hours to get it. Looks like time and money well spent though Stephen. I expect you still have a lot to share yet, looking forward to it.

Thanks Bud, and yes, I finally got one in more natural, wild, environment, not one that was so suburban. And much more to share....

Thanks Glenn. I was thrilled with all the color I saw down in the Valley this year. However, the shorebirds were very thin this year out on the island.
