Closest I've ever been...

This past weekend I was visiting my parents at their summer cabin in Maine. I went out for a kayak paddle on the pond with my parents and a friend. I usually take my camera with me in the kayak although it makes my father very nervous (he's is probably right - anything could happen). This time I heeded his advice and left the camera in the cabin. Upon returning to the dock, there was a bald eagle sitting on a branch right above where I would be bringing my kayak to shore. This eagle was so considerate that it let me bring my kayak to shore, walk quickly up to the cabin, grab my camera, and come back shooting. I didn't even know what settings my camera were on at the time (I just didn't want to let him fly away). The first photo is my attempt at editing in Photoshop, the second photo is straight out of the camera RAW converted to JPEG. I had my all purpose Tamron 18-270 lens on the camera. Photo taken at 270mm. This eagle has a nest in the wetlands that border the pond and right now there are two immature eagles in the nest who we've also seen quite a bit of, just never this close.
