Gallery Clean Up

I have a number of galleries that have received little or no activity over the past few months. What is the consensus about deleting inactive galleries? Since SmugMug has unlimited storage I could keep them forever. But, since nobody is looking at them anymore, let alone buying, should I dump them?

Are you still uploading new images into these galleries? Before deleting older galleries that were once active, I would update the galleries, or separate them into smaller more detailed galleries and email the clients who were once active in that gallery.

I was wondering the same thing.....

I have decided to move older galleries into "archive" folders and title them "2006" "2007" and so on......

Haven't had time to do it yet, but soon......thumb.gif

Ignorance is showing here: how do you move images and galleries around?

In the Customize section you can create a new category and/or sub category. You can call them Archive, or anything else you wish. Then go into the galleries you wish to move and click on the new cagegory and sub-category dropdowns. Thanks to Doug's idea that's what I may do. Create a main category of "Archive" then sub categoires by year 2005,2006.....2009. Then I'll move the inactive galleries so they won't be cluttering up my active galleries.

    Non Public
I just make those galleries non public. This way when I want them back, one click restores them. I can still see them.

i tried that with one gallery and if you went to the category it was under you could still see it, so I had to move it to another gallery that's not seen on the site.

Yes, making an entirely new category would work best. What you want to do is get rid of the visual clutter when looking at the recent and active galleries.
That's my weekend project. Moving all my old and inactive galleries to the new Archive category then arraigning them by year with the sub-categories I'll create.
