Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park

We spent the other day shooting Grand Prismatic Spring and after walking the boardwalk, which you should do to see it up close, we hiked the Fiary Falls trail so we could get the aerial view of this breathtaking wonder.
Its the largest spring in Yellowstone and one of the largest in North America. To see it from this angle is jaw dropping and you almost feel like you're on another planet. If coming to shoot the springs and geysers, make sure you have a wide angle lens and a circular polarizer for your camra.
All pictures taken with a Canon 5D and a 28-300L lens with a B&W Circular Polarizer
The boarwalk you see behind the spring is a 1/2 mile in length to give you an idea of the size of the spring!!
This shot reminded me of Sand Art
My beautiful wife Cindy used as a sense of scale to show how far we were away from the spring
Here is the angle you get from the boardwalk, and although its cool, its not as powerful as the view from atop the little knoll you can see behind the water

All Who Wander Are Not Lost
I like the composition of #3 the best, and great perspective on #1, really shows how big the pool is with the people as size reference points.

Seeing things like this really make you wonder if the images from other planets are real. I mean they could just be filming them in Yellowstone...

First, excellent shots. I love the vibrant colors from all of those thermophile bacteria.
We were in Yellowstone around the middle of May and got to see a lot of great stuff. I was extremely disappointed, however, that Grand Prismatic Spring was in an off-limits area due to "bear management" at that time. %@*!#*&! bears!!!!! I was so upset because I had planned to hike up the hill and get some of those amazing shots from higher ground. Ah well, such was the trade-off for not having to deal with a million annoying tourists in the busy season
