I was curious if anybody had any advice for lighting a diamond engagement ring. I will be shooting with a macro lense and a black vellour backdrop. I'd like to get the prism effect inside the diamond. Also, should I use a star filter?

what is going to hold the ring??

Star filter at that distance could easily hide the diamond if you are not real careful.

oh, I guess I forgot to add that I have a pretty extensive rock, mineral, and gem collection. I will be placing the ring on top of one of my semi-precious stones.

the ring...i'm using the stone as a base. It will be one of my duller stones so I don't take away from the ring.
