Macro Lens Options

Recently while exploring best options for macro photography, I checked out some of the lens recommendations from this site and others. The best ones are very expensive!! However, I read that Kenko extension tubes work well with “normal” non-macro lenses and was wondering if you thought the Kenko tubes might get me close to 1:1 with the 85 f1.4 as well as maintain its quality?

I thank you in advance for your recommendations.

A set of ext tubes with the 85mm should work well and a good way to get into macro. They can also be usefully used on a prime macro lens if you get one later on.

Thanks Brian, I will try it out soon enough. Still struggling with a dedicated Macro lens solution though, as it seems like the consensus is that it's the best way to go, albeit more expensive.

BTW, congratulation on your new camera. I can't even imagine what you can do with a tool like the 5D Mark II!
