No right button click copying protection for iPhone?

I have a pro account and have enabled right button click protection to reduce copying of my images. But I just got an iTouch and it seems that I can copy the images that have had the "disable right button" feature turned on. Any advice?

Just checked. Looks like when viewing in the iPhone mode, you can save any photo you see. Ialso tried to view the site with a regular view and if you save a protected image, you get a black page but if you "copy" the image, you ca get the URL of the image, which I guess you can use to then view and copy the image.

Is this issue known and being addressed?

Right-click protection is not implemented in the iPhone interface. Same for images obtained via feeds. Same for images obtained via the Smugmug API. Same for images displayed in other interfaces.

You should realize that even in the normal browser view, right-click protection takes mere seconds to bypass. Anything that can be displayed by a browser can always be copied, even if just by using a screen shot. Right click protection is superficial protection at best and no protection at all in other circumstances.

If you really want to protect your images from copying, then you need to limit the size that can be displayed and/or use a well designed and semi-transparent watermark. That is the only real way to protect your images from copying.

Hi, I really recommend that you use watermarks, as well as RCP...

Not sure if it's do-able, but I'll ask if this can be overcome on the iPhone, stay tuned.

I currently watermark all my images and only allow large as the largest size viewable but prefer a small nonobtrusive watermark. I'd hate to put a big one in the center of the image that hinders the viewing of the image.

The images that I downn loaded from my site still look very well resolved onthe iTouch screen though. More than enough to make for wallpaper and slideshows.

Please re-read John's post, and also my blog post? Thanks.

    Andy,
I'm not sure what I'm missing here except turning off the external link, which would prevent me linking my photos on forums like Dgrin. I am aware that you can steal images despite having the RCP but I do feel it is still a deterrent and a worthwhile feature.

I noticed that in the tranditional smugmug format on iPhone, if you "save an image" the image is just solid black and if you "copy" and then paste the URL, it just takes you back to the original page.

Perhaps a good workaround would be to allow for iPhone/iTouch format to be enabled or disabled on the control panel so each smugmug customer can decide for him/herself if they want the iPhone format to be viewable for their site? Just as customers who pay for RCP can choose to enable or disable it.
