Nice titles for both shots. I am a bird lover so I am leaning toword that one
I htink I would centered the crop in this one more

#2 is a very cool capture, although not as technically well shot as #1. headscratch.gif

I favor #1 and I think you should at least try a centered crop as Chris suggested.

The way her wings spread out may just work with a centered crop better..

You might consider posting that edit on here to let us see what that would look like too.. and just a touch more sharpening..

It is a very nice capture and fits the title well too..thumb.gif

Actually dave you have some wonderful captures here! I went awww with 1 and wowed at 2! So even though i like 1, 2 can use a tad more umph technically with some levels and cropping of the left and some of the bottom off. A once in a lifetime shot!thumb.gif

As for #3....nice thought and image but I dont feel it quite as stong as the potential in #2 in content. IMO

I'll probably go with the last shot, but I need to do a bit of touch up to it yet.

    Thanks for looking.

I like #3 but think #1 has potential. Maybe try a close crop to make the chicks more prominent and cut out some ot the distracting background. I really like the tie of #1 with the title.

How about a different shot from that morning.

I really like Gimme Shelter (2). The posture and 'expression' of the mom combined with the profile of the little duck trying to squeeze in really tell a story. The other possible images have their strengths as well, especially 'Walking in Memphis'.

Once again, the weirdo in the group speaks... Wipe Out all the way. Work on it a little bit - levels, colors, and all that - but the shot is just perfect for the song. I really like it!

I'd like to see a closer crop on this. It is a great fit for the song. The picture just needs more focus (less snapshotty), although a great capture!

Not a weirdo to like 'Wipe Out'. It's got great energy and works well with the song title. What holds it back a bit for me is that I would rather see a face in the image and not just both backsides.eek7.gif

15524779-Ti.gif Wipeout as in the old 1963 song? Perfect! That's the first thing I thought of when I saw this.

And it does count as a song becuase it has 1 word in it...2 if you count the "laugh". :Drolleyes1.gif

How come everyone always wants me to crop closer.
Even with 21 megapixels that the 5DMKII give me, I can't crop any closer with out killing the photo.

    the full frame.

The ducks and guy walking have a lot more there to work with.

Because everyone wanted the full in your face experience of the picture. I thought you might have already cropped it as far as you felt comfortable with.

All the shots are great... I really love the "walking in Memphis", but I think the "gimmee shelter", either one, is perfect for the song.

I think the cropped version gives it a little more depth. How about taking your original crop and extending left it to include the spray on the left side. That would be COOL! Didn't even know that was there until I saw the full frame.

But I definitely feel the "sweet! narly! wow!" more with the cropped version probably because like Donna said, it's more in your face. Also probably, it lessens the effect of the fore/background DOF.

    IMHO :D

    Thanks guys.

Although "Wipeout" has quite a following, I really can't crop it any more than I already have, so
it loses that, as someone said, "In your face" thing.

I still have another week to maybe get something better than what I've shown.

I think right now I'm still leaning towards the "Walking in Memphis" shot.

    Thanks for looking.

    Hi Dave,

21 pixels... well, aren't we the fortunate one..hehe..rolleyes1.gif

Hey,, I agree with your assessment on the wipe out shot. Although it is a fun capture and fun for the theme, it is not strong enough because we do not get the "full" human element in the shot. It leaves us wanting more..

The new one you posted of the bird sure is some fine photog work..thumb.gifthumbthumb.gif

However, I am not digging the blur on the edges of the frame, and it needs a touch more head room, but I love the composition and what a gorgeous shot..clap.gif

Memphis gets still gets my vote...thumb.gif

James Taylor : Mexico is the first song that came to mind...:D

Too bad you don't have a shot of the desert or cactus to composite into the shot...

Ha! As soon as you said that I thought of a song called 'Mexiko' by Tři Sestry. It's in Czech with some random Spanish words and phrases thrown in, it's hilarious. This is the chorus:

    Mexiko, Mexiko sombrero grande tequila
Donde está zapatería, čeká mě míla.

    Which is:

    Mexico, Mexico big hat tequila
Were is the shoe store, my girlfriend is waiting for me (this last chunk is Czech)

HA! This dude is definitely looking for the shoe store. rolleyes1.gif

I like the one with the sombrero! It made me think of Mexican Radio by Wall of Voodoo. Here's an excerpt from the lyrics.

I wish I was in Tijuana
    Eating barbequed iguana
I'd take requests on the telephone
I'm on a wavelength far from home
I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
I dial it in from south of the border
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand just what does he say?

    I'm on a mexican radio. I'm on a Mexican, whoa-Oh, radio
    I'm on a mexican radio. I'm on a Mexican, whoa-Oh, radio

clap.gifHey those are great songs to choose from too...thumb.gif Actually they have more potential than the James Taylor song when it comes to prop ideas Dave..

Maybe you can composite a radio in there with him or a bottle of tequila?

    Too fun...rolleyes1.gif
