Hi all,

I am new to this whole business. I am trying to create a custom banner on Smugmug. The dgrin tutorial says "the first thing you must do is create a banner using the software of your choice."

What types of software can I use (I have an iMac with iLife '07)? Are there any free sites on which I can create my own banner?

Thanks!
Gautham.

You can use any image editor, but generally most are referring to Photoshop ($650 US) or Photoshop Elements ($100 US). There are free/open source editors like GIMP that you can use.

If you are looking for something to use just a few times, you can even use one of the online editors like Picnik or Pixlr. Picnik is very simple to use, while Pixlr is more powerful.

If on OS X, try Pixelmator
...or if you use a Mac, you can use the Pixelmator app which is only $14.99 from the Mac App store:
