exif data and geography just aren't working for me

I love SmugMug, but I just can't get geography and exif data to work reliably, if at all under most circumstances (especially geography).

Here's an example gallery to see what I mean ("map this" doesn't even appear, and "photo info" is not usable):

I use Capture NX 2 and PhotoShop CS4 for editing. I copy the exif data from the original .nefs to the final .jpgs using ExifTool and geotag them using RoboGEO from my .gpx logs. This is a very fast/efficient workflow for me, and seems to work fine with every photo site out there except my favorite, SmugMug.

Any tips or ideas on why my exif data looks so bizarre or why "map this" is just flat broke?

Sorry about your geography tagging troubles. Actually, taking a look at the photo info for the first photo in the gallery, it looks sort of corrupted. Good that you mention RoboGeo. That would be not the first time we've seen it make non-standard changes to metadata that cause us troubles in reading the metadata properly.

If you try uploading that photo again without having it touched by RoboGeo, I bet the EXIF info displays properly.
Maybe there's a setting in RoboGeo to let it strictly follow standards when changing metadata?

Maybe you could give a different geo tagging software a try? Personally, I like www.geosetter.de/en very much. Give it a try.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try. Some photos in the past that were not touched by RoboGEO do look better on the exif data with SmugMug, but I'm not sure yet that every "corrupted" one has had RoboGEO used on it. I'll look into that though, it's a possibility. I'll check out your suggested software too.

Here's another oddity. Some of these photos had captions set in Adobe Bridge CS4 and "map this" shows up and works fine for the whole gallery, even those without descriptions. Still feels like more than a RoboGEO problem to me.

Well, so far RoboGEO seems to have been the source of my troubles. Too bad really since I like the software and didn't mind paying the author.

GeoSetter is working very well for me, thanks for the suggestion! I think I'll be making another donation... clap.gif
