D300 in the bathtub

I'm interested in insuring my gear and I'm hoping that maybe others have had some experiences similar to my situation.

Yes, I do want to take my camera in the bathtub, or more accurately, the ocean. So I need dive insurance for that.

I may or may not be "living" in the USA during much of the coverage periods, as I'll be in Thailand on a 5 month or longer student visa. I need to contact DAN to see how exactly that covers things.

I don't own a house nor do I rent at the present time, so I'm not sure if renters insurance will cover things.

I don't work "professionally" but there is always the potential for side jobs so that might be a problem for some plans.

So what I want is basically a plan that covers all the normal stuff, and especially:

Theft, including what may be considered "mysterious disappearances" (i.e. someone breaks in and steals my stuff while I'm out).

Damage or destruction of the equipment, including flooding when being used under water or in my bathtub.

I'm of course interested in plans that cover replacing the gear in the event of a total loss or repair costs. I've got some fine glass and would like to insure that I get to replace that glass with equally fine stuff, should the need come up.

If I need a "pro plan" then maybe that's the way I'll have to go, but the way I see it, a couple of hundred is small potatoes compared to the thousands that just one 70-200 would cost to replace. I'm cutting my car insurance when I go, so I'll just put the refund of that towards insurance.

Thank you for your help!:clap

If you do a search on the site for Insurance, you'll find several firms that do provide this type of insurance.

Thank you for the reference. I sent them a message. The only problem with them is that I want only my named equipment covered. I don't want an automatic 3,000 for my office and office equipment, I don't want or need liability, and I'm not sure if they will cover a US citizen living outside the US. But we'll see what they say!.

    Thanks again!

You may need to hook up PPA, yes I know you're not a PRO......however they do have an associate or student or beginners side to them and you may be able to achieve what you need that way...............

I went to their site, but it doesn't give much about the insurance offered that I can see. I guess I'll have to send them an email too. Thanks for the suggestion!
