O.K., I am a 100% Nikon gal on my professional gear, but I need a P&S that will fit in my purse and upon review of many different makes and models, I believe a Canon is going to be my best bet. I want to stay at $250 or less since there will just be field trips, pets, etc. in these pics.... I am debating between an A2100 IS and the Sx110 IS. Any opinions or advice?

For outdoor images I truly believe that most any P&S may work for you, depending upon your need for zoom and range.

Indoors, I still prefer the FujiFilm Finepix F40fd as an inexpensive solution. Very nice through ISO 400 and the ISO 1600 is usable in some circumstances. You can still get them new through Amazon for your price.

They don't have a super-zoom or IS, no RAW mode or (true) manual mode, but I am honestly satisfied with mine.

Extra (lithium) batteries are cheap and they use SD cards (as well as xD which I do not recommend).

I have some tests at high ISO:

I have the SX110 IS and have been very pleased with it. It fits nicely in my purse, and although it's slightly larger than some other P&S models, it offers more manual settings than the smaller cameras. My biggest complaint is that the quality rapidly deteriorates above ISO 400, but I had read that before purchasing the camera. Generally the wider aperture and IS help get around the higher ISOs anyway.

Here are a couple images I've taken with the SX 110:

I also have the sx110 and it's wonderful. You can have a lot more manuel control with this camera compared to others that just have scene modes. It does fit in a regular jeans pocket even though it might look chucky.
