It's been "the week of the Toroweap" here on DGrin. I'm still working on several, but here's a few:
1. Toroweap Postcard - crazy DOF with a yellow-ish tint just for fun.
2. Obligatory pano not far from camp.
3. Desert Landscape
4. Sunset at Toroweap

Dan, you gotta try Topaz Adjust. Trust me, this plug-in is right up your alley. Run your HDR's through Photomatix and then try some creative stuff in Topaz Adjust.

Excellent series! I have a hard time choosing between 1 and 4, but I think 1 gets the nod. I'm drawn to the greenish river first, both for the color and for the way it shows the vastness of the canyon--those enormous, high walls with that tiny ribbon running through it. Wonderful shot!

I agree. I like the play with the DOF.

Why get into a pissing match with a bunch of nice people you just met?
Here's my opinion in a nutshell. There's a time and a place for HDR. Just like there's a time and place to Photoshop something. However, just because you can, doesn't always mean you should. If you're going to use HDR on an image and create some heavy colors, extreme details and halos, then your photo is going to be critiqued on that. And if you're offended, tough crap. If you HDR, make yourself happy first, put on some thick skin and then see what feedback other people can give you. I submitted that last image to our local camera club for an open category in August. It will be interesting to hear what the judges say. I'm guessing some of the "seasoned members" are going to critique it very carefully. I would too. I think that photo is destined to be done in a metallic print by Mpix.com for my office wall.
