They're all nice shots but I prefer the second. However, you have a couple dark spots at the top of the image that would probably be worth fixing (maybe with the clone tool).
I saw that you made a composite for these. Your post gave me the idea of checking out Tipsoo Lake at night. I must be beautiful there.
choosing between 2 and 3 is tough, but i think i'm leaning toward 3 as it looks a little more realistic (not quite so many stars) although they are both incredible
Thank you everyone who replied. It just firmed up what I already thought.
Danny, Tipsoo at night is extremely dark as I'm sure you're aware. The reason I had to do a composite is because the milky way is North/South, while Tipsoo faces Rainier to the West. From your shot I would guess you were at Sunrise. (Very nice shot BTW...very inspiring!) I was actually up there Saturday night just like Ron. I think I passed him on the way over to Chinook Pass. Nothing but fog! :cry And narly driving that stretch in fog.
Kristin, you would be amazed at how many stars there are and how bright the Milky Way is in a totally dark place. Looking up, it almost fools you into thinking dawn has arrived.
I think I actually did this challenge backwards...I picked the song first then came up with the shot.
I have finally finished my entry (I think). Here it is with all the corrections and advice from everyone:

I'd never heard of the song.
When I saw the shot, I though of "Starry Starry Night" by Don McLean.
Basking in the shadows of yesterday's triumphs'.
- I think I like the Reshoot #1 better - it's a little lighter (on my screen)

the original really rubbed me wrong with the ppost work on the stars... kinda reminded me of looking through a coke bottle effect kinda sorta thing.
