Hi Everyone
I need some suggestions on my next lens purchase. I have a 40D with the 28-135mm IS which i got as the kit lens.Over time i have realized that i am missing the wide angle quite a bit .I am thinking of going with the 17-40mm or the 10-22mm.
I don't want to break the bank with the 16-35mm ....yet.
any suggestions ? Will the 17-40 render my 28-135 kinda useless ?Maybe i could explore the 70-200 later if i need to. Most of my photos are landscape so i figured the wide angle lenses are a priority for me than zoom.
any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

For "vista" landscapes, pretty much any of the "super-wide"zooms will work nicely. For Canon crop cameras this includes:

    Canon EF-S 10-22mm, f/3.5-4.5 USM
Sigma 10-20mm, f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM
    Tokina 12-24mm, f/4 PRO DX
    Tokina AT-X 11-16mm, f2.8 PRO DX
Tamron SP 11-18mm, f4.5-f5.6 Di-II LD Aspherical [IF]
Tamron SP 10-24mm, f3.5-f4.5 Di-II LD Aspherical [IF]

If you want to stay closer to a standard zoom:

    Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR DI-II LD Aspherical (IF)
Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro

The wide end on these standard zooms is quite a bit wider than your current zoom, and they cover a lot of other circumstances as well.

I do have and like the Canon EF 17-40mm, f4L USM, but I rarely use it on the crop cameras to be honest. Others find it very useful.

Ziggy has provided several excellent options. One other consideration, since you did say "yet" to the 16-35 is a used 16-35 MKI instead of the newer MkII. A bit older, but an excellent piece of glass that can usually be had for a reasonable price, considering the lens.

    wave.gif - Welcome.....

Ziggy's list is about as good as it gets - for whatever my vote is worth:D

I have both the 10-22 and the 17-55. Both are stellar performers.

And I'll throw in big props for the Tamron 17-50 (which can be found used ~$300)
