Lightning over the Sound

I've been trying to try some lightning shots for a while, but haven't been able to find the right conditions. Finally Friday night, around 11pm, I saw some big flashes off to the north, and ran up to Bayville, on Long Island's North Shore overlooking Long Island Sound, to see thunderstorms rumbling across the Connecticut shoreline.

The details - I'm shooting with a Canon 40D, my old 18-55mm 300D kit lens, ISO 100, f/7.1, on Bulb mode with a remote. Shutter times ranged from 15 - 40 seconds.

Yes, those are the navigation lights of an airplane in the upper left, probably heading to LaGuardia. I didn't realize it until I got home and looked, but you can see the silhouette of the airplane against clouds illuminated by the lightning!
