keywords and description saved to IPTC of original?

I'm a flickr user wanting to move to something a bit more feature rich. I'm wondering if smugmug, or any other photo hosting site has this functionality.

If I my photo pulled up on smugmug and I edit the description or keywords will smugmug automatically update the corresponding IPTC fields of the original photo?

Anyone heard of this functionality existing anywhere?

We don't do this, we leave your original alone, not altering it at all. Any reason you can't edit your keywords locally? ear.gif

I can, but I have multiple sources for upload. Home computer, a couple of iphones, etc., and my wife isn't nearly as diligent at editing the IPTC tags prior to uploading photos and instead she edits the descriptions once they are uploaded. Then if I want to sync the descriptions and keywords don't come back down from smugmug to my local copies.

This all stems back to wanting an exact replica of my photos on my local computer and having them do a two way sync on a regular basis which I haven't found a solution to yet either.

IMHO, this is a major dealbreaker. Since it is not possible to sync local images with my account at SmugMug - and not possible to replace an image with a new one with more keywords - I would prefer to do all my keyword-work with SmugMug. This is obviously absurd, though, if the keywords added at SmugMug can't be saved to the original file (as all the work will be lost, if I need to download the image).

Using a tool like AlbumFetcher, the keywords come back :)

With this line of thinking, why do you have crop and rotate tools? To me, that's inconsistent. I think it's super important to let the user know when the original is being altered, but I would also love to do everything in the browser.

Oh, and data portability is the new black. mwink.gif

Sure - we're just not two-way yet. One day, one day.....
